Greg –
Bought this after our most recent hurricane, as I didn’t have a simple radio to tune into local news & the latest weather reports. With power & cell phone coverage knocked out, old-fashioned radios became the only means of getting info. This device has a lot of useful extra features, specifically when it comes to its power source(s). It can be recharged by hand-crank or a built-in solar panel (both of which would be a last resort). It can also be powered by 3 AAA batteries OR its built-in 2000mah battery (also useful for topping up a cell phone). It has 2 lights (the one under the flip-up solar panel is super bright) & an audible SOS alarm. The one downside to this radio is the audio quality of the speaker. Reception is good, but the sound is tinny and not very loud. It’s fine for getting the news, or listening to talk radio, but music doesn’t sound good and if you’re hard of hearing it may not be to your liking. All in all its well worth it just for its versatility in an emergency situations.
